The beaches of Dar es Salaam

Dar es Salaam lies on Tanzania’s coast in East Africa . It among the most beautiful coastal cities in East Africa with  spectacular beaches are a great draw to both locals and visitors. Although many visitors like to visit its nearby popular island of Zanzibar for their beach holiday, there are still plenty of options for a pleasant beach holiday in Dar Es Salaam. 

  1. Dar Es Salaam – Bongoyo  and Mbudya Islands

Bongoyo Island is a Marine Reserve  located just 7km from the Dar es salaam city. It offers  offers very  good snorkelling and diving sites for those who want to explore the water. This marine reserve boasts of its beautiful beaches, secluded islands and many varieties of marine species. Although the variety and population of coral and fish species are not as numerous as other sites on Zanzibar, Pemba, and Mafia Island, the Bongoyo Island Marine Reserve is well worth a visit and is a great way to spend a day out and see the coast.

Another small island near Dar es salam is the Mbudyy island, which can be accessed from White Sands Hotel at Jangwani Beach by a small ferry. Visitors like to the day here on a fabulous beach and enjoy fresh fish straight from the Indian Ocean.

 

  1. Dar es Salaam – North Beach

The northern part of Daresalaam has long impressive white sand beaches with most parts  with crystal clear waters. The beaches are always almost empty with very few local villagers picking shells and children swimming in the ocean. The beach is a perfect private paradise and it is a very quiet and calm place, most ideal for relaxing, reading a book and swim in the ocean!

Although the beaches are often part of a hotel, most are not exclusively for hotel guests; anyone who orders a drink or lunch may use the facilities. An additional advantage is that the hotels keep the beaches clean and safe.

  1. Dar es Salaam – Kigamboni

Kigamboni, also known as South Beach, is located in a quiet area to the southeast of the city centre and is accessible by car and by ferry. The hotels here offer outstanding facilities and keep the beaches nice and clean. Kigamboni can be a nice tranquil place for overnights or a day trips with plenty of swimming in the blue Indian ocean.
